Are you feeling that your browser takes too much time to reload a web page , most of time showing errors and warnings. Also yo may have noticed that that when you open your browser many windows opens automatically those you don’t want to use. Your Web browser area become too short by many tool bars at top e.g. yahoo toolbar, ask toolbar etc.

I am going to tell you some of the tips for improving your browser experience –

1. First of all don’t stick on Windows Internet Explorer it is not having too much customization. You can use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome these are very fast and up to date browser with many customization options.

2. Go to Help in menu bar and click on about Firefox and check for updates, and update your browser with the latest one.

3. When ever you install many software for your windows there are many toolbar by defaults add into your browser e.g. google toolbar, yahoo toolbar, ask toolbar etc. These are may be useful but many people not using them and they reduce the height of browser and also using resources of your browser and slow down them. There are two options either uninstall them using control panel or click on view tab under menu bar and in toolbar UN-check your undesired toolbar, Like this

you can also uncheck menu under this option this will give you more space to work, menu will come automatically when you press Alt key. Now you get this much of space see below:

4. Now more optimization is required: by increasing offline cache size you can increase your browser speed because when you open some pages regularly these are saved into your disk when you open them again they open instantly due to offline cache stored inside your disk. You can increase this as per your requirement (upto 1 GB easily) so that this can optimise your web page opening.

• Open Firefox.
• In the address bar type the following command:
• about:config
• Click on the “I’ll be careful, I promise…” button

In the Filter field type: browser.cache.offline.capacity

 

Double click on the entry , modify it to fit to your needs.

• Validate with the Ok button.
• Close the about:config window.

5. Now Know how to bookmark your favorite web pages see the picture just drag the symbol before HTTP/www in address bar and place it on the bookmark bar below the address bar , Or right click on the bar and make new folder rename this as per your req. and drag all your useful pages /sites as per classifications.

6. Now see what you can more using your browser add-ons – Go to Tools – Add-ons in your menu and in search bar type “speed dial” now install this add on and set your default home page. You can see the image above second one. Now simple drag and drop your favorite pages here . at the time of next restart you also see these tabs showing preview of pages, you can click on this window or can also go to the page by pressing ctrl+no. of that page for example press ctrl+1 to open the webpage that is saved on the first tab and so on.

7. Also search for “babylon word search” add-on to find the meaning just by right clicking on the word. Select the word and right click and search the meaning using babylon dictionary.

How to convert word & excel files to PDF efficiently , Also use OCR technology to produce texts from scanned documents.

Many times you want to convert a word or excel file to PDF for email attachment purposes and found that it has crosses the limit of attachments . Many Microsoft exchange servers uses inside office allow you to attach a 15-20 mb file at once. So how to convert a PDF in smaller size here is some of guidelines regarding this:

1. In Office 2007 & 2010 there is a option in file menu that is save as pdf , if this is not coming in your file then download this from here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=9943 and install.

2. Now click on save as tab

now check pdf option, and also check minimum size(publishing online) option, you can also done various things in option tab e.g. page selection and other things. see these snap shot:

Now if you check the size of your approx 200 page word file then after converting pdf it comes out only 1-2 mb only(size depends on picture and graphics inside the file).

3. If you dont have office 2007 or 2010 then you can use various option to create pdf, One option is that install PDF printer from internet. There are many software available on internet e.g. cutepdf, primo pdf, doPdf, Foxit PDF creator etc. dopdf is free and very simple pdf printer.

After installing go to your desired file and press ctrl+p and select dopdf and select paper size as A4 (most common) you can adjust the output file resolution to adjust your output file size requirement. The default settings are either 200 or 300 dpi, if you decrease this the output file size will become small but the quality of output file will also degrade. So choose wisely .See the snapshots below:

You can also print from webpage directly using pdf printers no any printer in actual required. When you got the availability of printer at office or market you can print via pen drive. This is very useful for many online forms requirement for recruitment or for bill invoice printing.

4. You can also merge various pdf files using “simple pdf merger” this is a very small and lightweight software serve the purpose efficiently .

5. Many times when you want to edit the pdf file you are faced total inability to edit the pdf file . It is possible using Foxit PDF editor or Adobe acrobat professional, but these are paid versions . If you want in free you can install open office it is totally free , open any new file and in open dialogue choose the pdf file  manually and open for editing after you save your changes saved into that file. using linux you can also edit a pdf file freely.

6. You may have known about OCR technology it is a Optical Character Recognition technique by which you can not only make a scanned documents searchable but also cut copy paste as like normal pdf file.

For this you have to purchase either Adobe Acrobat Professional or Foxit Phantom PDF software. The document you want to scan should be clear from any spots, and you should choose scan resolution 300dpi or higher. After scanning save as PDF or directly scan into PDF. and thereafter run OCR it will recognize the texts as per software’s inbuilt library and available fonts and made the file searchable and text copying .

After running OCR save the file and copy paste into a word file as your requirement. It is so simple If you got a document that is not having its original word or excel file you have to do too much typing. But using OCR you can do it in few seconds. It is very useful isn’t it.

How to secure your all login password in Firefox

I know that most of you may aware of Firefox master master password option. Though it will be help full for those who don’t aware this.

In the world of internet life has become hell when a dozens of login passwords are required to remember.
For your email , Facebook, many other sites whenever you go there , they required you to sign up first. In early days of internet I have thought that I will make only one password to every site for easy to remember.
But soon after I found it impossible when I come to know that every website have different terms for login passwords.
Some site required alphanumeric, some want first character alphabetic , some want especial characters.
In Firefox I have found solution of this problem– Go to the tools menu, then go to options , then click security tab, here you will find a “use a master password” option. Check this , and type your only one unique single password.

Now next time whenever you login a website it will ask you to save your passwords, click save by this method for once.
Whenever next time you login the same web page a diologue box will open to asking your master password. type your master password and your login details will come automatically.
It is very safe without your master password your saved passwords are hidden, nobody can view or use them.
Only remember to close Firefox after use so that in next session it will ask you a master password.

Also remember two important things:
1. Never use to remember login details for your bank, credit card, billing , Demat account sites, for these you have to memorize into your mind.
2. If your office PC will going to change , before changing your PC save your all passwords with you, and clear these passwords & History from your old PC.
